Today we attended the Skills USA Competition in Covington, Kentucky for the region.  Our son Grayson competed in the carpentry class with seven other students from schools all over Northern Kentucky.  While having a rocky start, Grayson overcame some initial frustrations to be the first place winner.  While winning self confidence and pride in his craft are an important part of the Skills USA mission, it was also fun for Grayson to receive a power saw and other tools that he will need for his trade.  Are Steve and I proud?  You bet.  We already know he is an awesome kid, but this was the icing on the cake.  Next will be state competition in April in central Kentucky.  Whether he wins that or not, we’re proud of the opportunity for him.  Congratulations Grayson!  I’m sorry about the quality of the photos below, I was a little nervous and not on the ball with the camera.  I do want to give a huge “Thank you” to Grayson’s teacher, Mr. David Lawson of McCormick Technical School in Campbell Co.  He has been a big contributor to Grayson’s success.  It’s teachers like Mr. Lawson that make kids want to learn and do their best.  Thank you Mr. Lawson!
